Gee Willikers, this website: ToToM's Mashups.

There's so many fantastic mashup tracks on there. Pièce de résistance are the three volumes of Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero mashups, Bootleg is Resistance. My personal favourites from that: Get Down Make Love to your Master (Meet Your Master vs.Queen - Get Down Make Love), Survive the Casbah (Survivalism vs. The Clash - Rock the Casbah) and Meet your Sweet Master Alabama (Meet your Master vs. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama).

Delicious.

Probably not as consistently good as Sound of Silver but when it is good - oh boy!

I only recently figured out that LCD Soundsystem weren't the same band as Stereo MCs (aka those guys who did that "Get yourself connected uhohaoh" song then did nothing for ten years then started releasing some more albums again. I don't think it was too much of a stretch, seeing as stereo = soundsystem and LCD is a bit like MC. Of course, I don't think I've actually heard any of either of their music, apart from the aforementioned Connected. So how about that, eh?

The whole of the first half is just brilliant. Second half's not bad either.

Okay. Okay. I like the idea of a multi-venue all-day event, where you can just wander from place to place, and I've had (mostly) good times in the past.

But surely it defeats the point when the venues are at opposite corners of the city, to the point where it suggests getting a bus? Stupid Cambridge.

I got very into mashups a few years ago, and one of my favourites was Revolved, the whole of Revolver mashed up with a bunch of stuff, by a guy called CCC. Today I found out that not only did the same guy do Sgt Pepper's in 2007, but he's currently working on a Motown/Abbey Road mash-up.

I especially like this Ain't No Mountain High Enough mixed with Something. The verse doesn't quite work, unfortunately, but the chorus is beautiful.

Also:

While I'm not massively keen on Pitchfork generally, their single reviewer has got it spot on:

QUOTE
When Marvin Gaye found out his girl was ditching him on his version of "Heard It Through the Grapevine", all he could do was pine after her. The same goes for Motown heroes the Temptations on songs like "(I Know) I'm Losing You" or even the Supremes on "Stop! In the Name of Love". But even though they were wallowing, an indignant stubbornness came across; away from the microphone, they might chew an ex out more bluntly. A few decades on, Cee-Lo does just that, exploding with an instrumental steeped in 1960s pop while taking supreme joy in flipping some golddigger the bird.

Even in our cuss-addled times, calling a song "Fuck You" will get an automatic novelty spin. But while Cee-Lo modernizes the language, he's sure to make the song craft as timeless, efficient, and repeatable as any number of golden oldies. Like "Hey Ya" before it, "Fuck You" gets by on a generation-spanning simplicity, and, coming from Cee-Lo's mouth, the title phrase actually isn't illicit at all. It's beyond happy. Cathartic. It could be the new "Sesame Street" theme. It could play at a wedding, and your grandmother would hobble to it. It's post-censorship. The radio version replaces "fuck" with "forget," and it may as well not exist

Another great mash-up - Robyn's Dancing On My Own crossed with ACDC's You Shook Me All Night Long.

About once every six months I rediscover In Rainbows. <3

It might well be my favourite Radiohead album now.

A long time ago on this very forum someone (FZ?) recommended the Django Reinhardt anthology. I picked it up on a whim a couple of weeks ago and it's fantastic - my wife and I both love it.

Radiohead live in Prague. Full DVD quality footage filmed by lots of people in the crowd using Flip video cameras but, importantly, with proper sound from the engineers. Nice set-list, makes me really want to go and see them, which I haven't done for about five years now.

Thanks for this Tom. Without doubt the best band I've seen live. Going to get the DVD downloaded now.

Ooh mashups, I wondered which forum would be best for these. I really enjoy Girltalk's stuff - you can get it for free/however much you want to pay on Illegal Art ( http://illegal-art.net/shop/ ), and Night Ripper in particular is excellent. Also Benji Boko's Hour Long Mix is possibly the best thing you will ever hear http://soundcloud.com/benjiboko . Ever.

And of course FarOff, with the pick at the moment probably being the brits are playing at my house: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPtWh5XjiH0

Interested in all your links, especially ToToM and am enjoying those Beatles mixes you posted.

*EDIT* Also ofcourse: http://www.mashup-charts.com/

I have literally no words for how happy this album makes me:

All-girl, all-Norwegian Folk-Pop-Rock and all completely bonkers. Gods, but I love Scandinavian bands these days. (Well, I mean, I have a favourite Finnish* band and a favourite Swedish** swing-hip-hop-jazz band and now a favourite Norwegian*** band. A Danish friend of mine has recommended a Danish band* to become my favourite too. Then I shall have the whole set. Well. Excepting Iceland. Call it the Mainland Scandinavian Set, then.)

*Possibly a bad thing that I want someone to make an Inception fanvid to this so very, very much.
**From their album 'Äppelknyckarjazz' - lit. 'Apple stealing jazz'. Scrumping music.
***First heard on the 6Music playlist of the past couple of weeks. Relentlessly catchy. I don't even have the words.
****Why is the song about 007 dying? I really have absolutely no clue. But they do rock. And I always approve of unexpected keytar.

"Don't talk to her about the moon. Everything's on the moon!" - sweet drunk talk that is actually accurate. I do mention the moon more than is strictly necessary.

That band sounds rad. I like folk-pop-rock that is ridiculous. It makes me happy. Will endeavour to investigate on YouTube when I have awoken.

I'm really glad the XX won the Mercury, theirs is a brilliant album and they fully deserve it.
