Sorry, this one's a bit cheeky.

Alec Guiness was in Laurence of Arabia with Omar Sharif
In an improbably turn of events, Omar Sharif found himself in Dr Zhivago with  Alec Guiness
Alec Guiness was in Star Wars with Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford is dating Calista Flockhart
Calista Flockhart was in Ally McBeal with Lucy Lui
Lucy Lui was in Charlies Angels with Cameron Diaz

Next: Guy Pearce -> Charlie Chaplin

First go - not sure if this will sit okay.

Guy Pearce was in LA Confidential with Russel Crowe.
Russell Crowe was in Gladiator with Oliver Reed.
Oliver Reed was in a 1974 version of The Three Musketeers a modern version of which starred Charlie Sheen.
Charlie Sheen was in Wallstreet with Michael Douglas.
Michael Douglas was in Wonder Boys with Robert Downey Jr.
In Chaplin Robert Downey Jr played Charlie Chaplin.

If that's okay I ask for James Purefoy - David Wenham without using Lord of the Rings.

And to answer M-Dave's question I used imdb once that time. Though I'd normally have to use it more I suspect. Before the days of imdb people used to have to store all that kind of info in their heads.

(if the point of Olly Reed - Charlie Sheen is contentious replace with this -

Russell Crowe was in The Insider with Rip Torn
Rip Torn was in Beyond the Law with Charlie Sheen

And that I did have to do on imdb)

Meh, I just blatently use IMDB from start to finish.

Obviously you need to use your own knowledge to guide the search, but without the handy structure it provides I'd end up going down a million and one different routes.

Come on guys. I did set one...

Or is mine not good enough for you?

*pouts*

I chose obscure people (well Wenham isn't obscure in Aus) to make it difficult. It's surely not that hard?

Fine. Okay. Fine. Here's a better one then -

James Spader -- > Elijah Wood.

*grumbles*

EDIT: Without using LotR - there's just too many people in that film.

Damn... I can do this in three <_< OK, pad it out...

James Spader was in Secretary with Maggie Gyllenhaal
Her brother is Jake Gyllenhaal
He was in Donnie Darko, which also starred (and was funded by the production company of) Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore was in Riding in Cars with Boys with Brittany Murphey
Ms. Murphey was in The Devil's Arithmatic with Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten Dunst was in Eternal Sunshine of the Stupid Name (oh, OK, and Spiderman.... bastards) with... Elijah Wood.

For your viewing pleasure: Ed Norton to Eliza Dusku w/o going through Buffy or any film directed by Spike Jones.

I'm guessing there was no love for Ed and Eliza, so if anyone wants;

Keanu Reeves to Carrie-Anne Moss without, obviously, The Matrix.

Keanu Reeves is in Constantine opposite Rachel Weisz
Who played Hugh Grant's love interest in About A Boy
Hugh Grant is idiotic in Four Weddings, which features a great appearance by Rowan Atkinson
Unfortunately I haven't been able to erase the fact from my mind that Rowan Atkinson also starred in Johnny English, along with Natalie Imbruglia
Who rose to fame in the legendary Neighbours, which Guy Pearce was also in for a few years
And Guy Pearce stars in Memento, along with Carrie Anne Moss. :)

Is this just for film stars? Seems a bit easy. If not, I'd like to see someone connect Victoria Beckham to David Beckham, without using their children.

I'm sure you could find a Loos strand or two to tie them together. Unfortunately, I don't read enough tabloids to make the connection, I just liked how that sentence sounded in my head.

I'd say try and keep it to film stars, as IMDb is the great equaliser :)

Ah, fair enough. Can I still make it difficult?

Meg Ryan to Tom Hanks, without any romantic comedies.

Meg Ryan was in Courage Under Fire with Denzel Washington
Denzel Washington played alongside Gene Hackman in Crimson Tide
Who was in Runaway Jury along with John Cusack
Who featured in The Thin Red Line with George Clooney
George Clooney featured in Ocean’s Eleven with a lot of stars, including Matt Damon
Who played the titular Private Ryan in Saving Private Ryan with Tom Hanks

Now since difficulty is encouraged, how about Pruitt Taylor Vince to Mandy Patinkin? (A bit mean, but they've both been in a fair amount of stuff)

Meg Ryan was the voice of Dr Blight in (wait for it) CAPTAIN PLANET AND THE PLANETEERS! :D
Which also feature Jeff Goldblum as "Duke Nukem". I hope that's the Duke, I really do.

Of course, Jeff Goldblum was in that mightest of action films, Independence Day (this was going to be a Cats & Dogs joke, but the link was too hard), directed by LORD OF DISASTER, Roland Emmerich.

Who also, apparently, directed the Stargate movie, staring Kurt Russel as the original (but not best, oh no) Col. Jack O'Neil.

Kurt Russel is in the currently film remake of The Poseidon Adventure with Josh Lucas.

Josh Lucas was in A Beautiful Mind, that wonderful film directed by Ron Howard.

Who also happens to be directng the adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, staring none other than Tom Hanks as the Indiana-Jones-Without-The-Whip chappy, Robert Langdon.

Edit: Oh bull crap. Mine's the only one to mention Captain Planet though :D

Who found freedom on the Amistad with the help of Anthony Hopkins

Sir Tony starred in Hearts in Atlantis with David Morse ( a most excellent film indeed)

Who starred in The Negotiator with Ron Rifkin

Who played the doctor in Wolf with James Spader

James Spader starred in True Colours which also starred...Mandy Patinkin

You've confused me, but whichever answer involves you having one name more than you're meant to is the correct one.

I won't loose sleep over it, though, as you get get from Hopkins to Spader in one less step quite easily.
